Axel Witsel will be staying in the Chinese Super League after his manager ruled out a move to Manchester United.

United had reportedly been offered the 29-year old but it now appears that the Belgium World Cup start will remain in China for the time being.

The World Cup semi-finalist had also been linked with a move to Borussia Dortmund, after it emerged that Paris Saint-Germain were chasing Julian Weigl.

But now it appears any Witsel exit is unlikely to happen after Paulo Sousa denied all reports.

Speaking to CGTN, the Portuguese was confident when discussing the Belgian’s future at the club.

“I have received no information about Witsel’s transfer situation, neither from the club nor from the player himself.” he said.

“So as I understand it, he has a clause in his contract, but this clause can only be triggered within the [Chinese] transfer windows, and that has already shut in China.”

Sousa added: “This transfer will not happen.”
